I grew up in Rockford, Illinois, an area that is used to and prepared for tornados.  One day As I sat out on the front porch watching the world go by everything suddenly stopped.  The air became still and heavy.  The flowers stood perfectly still.  I spent the next hour or so in the storm cellar thinking of those flowers and if they would make it through the storm.  They did and I painted them.
