I was fortunate enough to work on two films in South Africa back in the late 80’s, “Buried Alive” and “Let the Music Be”.  While on holiday between films I spent two weeks on a game preserve.  My “room” was a small bed and a bath (outhouse style but indoors) sitting on top of a wooden platform, which held up four walls made of local trees.  On the small table next to the bed was an oil lamp.  In keeping with the design of my room were two open air holes in the wall that substituted for windows.  The first morning I woke up in my little sanctuary I had company.  A giant giraffe had stuck his head through one of the holes in the walls.  I’ll never forget that amazing giant giraffe.
